It’s National Nutrition Month – Tips to Stay Safe by Eating Healthy!
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics celebrates National Nutrition Month each year. This year, their theme is “Eat Right, Bite by Bite” which focuses on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating habits. At Security Specialists, we’ve put together seven easy tips you can follow to make small changes to your diet that can have a big impact on your health over time.
- Drink More Water – Forget sugary drinks and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water
- Read the Label! – You are what you eat so pay attention to the nutrition label on all food and drink products so you can make smarter and safer dietary choices.
- For Safety’s Sake, Follow All Food Safety Guidelines – wash your hands regularly, handle raw food appropriately, cook foods to the proper internal temperature and refrigerate food promptly.
- Don’t Forget to Eat Breakfast! – It’s the most important meal of the day so make it count. Eat lean protein, whole grains, low-fat plain yogurt, fruits and vegetables.
- Load Up on Fruits and Vegetables – they’re loaded with vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber. Try to make 2 cups of fruit and 2 ½ cups of vegetables your daily goal.
- Don’t Over Do It, Watch Your Portion Size – Use a measuring cup to get the recommended serving size. Use half your plate for fruits and vegetables and the other half for grains and lean protein foods. Don’t forget to drink more water!
- Ditch the Candy and Cake, Eat Healthy Snacks – Grains, fruits, vegetables, dairy and protein can sustain your energy levels between meals while also satisfying your hunger.
