New Year’s Eve Safety and Security Tips from Security Specialists…

A new year…a new beginning…let the party begin!

New Year’s Eve is upon us and with all the excitement of the holiday, it’s important to remember that there’s also the risk of having your celebration end in tragedy if you’re not careful. To help you and yours have a safe New Year’s Holiday, here are five quick security tips:

  1. Make Sure Your Eat! While it may seem obvious, if you’re going to drink make sure you have something in your stomach to avoid alcohol poisoning. Eat high-protein foods such as cheese, meat, and nuts to slow down the absorption of alcohol in the digestive system.  This will give alcohol more time to metabolize in the body resulting in a lower risk of alcohol poising.
  2. Never, Ever Drink and Drive! Another no-brainer but worth repeating. If you’re going to drink – don’t Remember, January 1st has the highest percentage of deaths related to alcohol, according to Insurance institute for highway safety data.
  3. Have a Designated Driver and Plan Sober Rides! If you intend on drinking during the holiday, have a designated driver or plan sober rides. Alcohol related accidents are highest between the hours of 9 PM an 3 AM, so please plan accordingly.
  4. If You’re Going Out – Be Aware of your Surroundings! To a criminal, nothing beats a holiday that is known for a lot of people going out partying and drinking. Always make sure you have a fully charged phone before leaving your home, travel in crowds with friends or family, travel in well-lit areas and never accept any beverage from a stranger!  If you’re in a crowd and feel uncomfortable with someone who you believe might be a danger to you or a friend, alert the police or a security professional.
  5. Be careful Around Fireworks!  While fun and beautiful to watch, fireworks can be extremely dangerous. If you’re planning to light fireworks on your property, check local ordinances as in most cities they are illegal. Even if someone else is lighting a firecracker on your property, you can be held criminally liable if any damage or injuries occur. If you are allowing fireworks on your property make sure pets are inside or kept at a safe distance from the action.
